The East Pier Smokehouse
There's no smoke without fire, and The East Pier Smokehouse is - forgive the pun - the hottest restaurant in the East Neuk. If you like your seafood with a smoky twist, it's definitely the place for you.
James Robb, who started it only two years ago has created a truly unique destination restaurant. You could drive but there's no better way to work up an appetite than to walk there from East Vows - it's about an hour away along the Fife Coastal Path.
The people are lovely and the food delicious...
It's not open every day, so check out their web site for times.
We loved their lobster & chips, which we washed down with a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc
And you can't help but fall in love with St Monan's itself: one of the last fishing villages in this part of the world, where the catch of the day makes its way to their tables - via an obligatory stop off in their smokehouse.
James catches the mackerel himself, from a boat anchored just along the pier, so it's sustainable, ethical and utterly yummy!
PS - they don't just smoke seafood.
We bought a pack of their smoked basmati rice and used it to make the best kedgeree we've ever eaten!
